Hi Brandon, great presentation! I particularly enjoyed #6 regarding knowing one’s audience. If students thought about their online “brand” the same way educators teach them to think about strategic planning, they would be better off. My experience, however, is that students have to be gently nudged to think about themselves this way.
Here’s an example of a successful former student of mine at the University of South Florida who build a marketing campaign (“Brand You”) around her job hunt, resulting in landing a fantastic job:

Personal branding is becoming more and more important, especially in these tough times of high unemployment. Having a strong personal brand will help you stand out from the crowd and also proves to potential employers that you know how to build and manage a brand (personal branding and corporate branding do share similar tools and practices after all).
