Hardly a week goes by that I don’t discover an insightful blog post about social media or Internet marketing written by someone I’ve never heard of. How many people out there are blogging these topics? I checked our media research database, and found profiles for more than 300 such bloggers. Who has time to keep up with 300 blogs? A group like that can turn your RSS reader into a part-time job. So, I wondered whose blogs are the most influential. Web metrics nerd that I am, I gathered some data and ranked them.
Let me put a disclaimer here: there’s a limit to the effectiveness of using any sort of statistics to gauge a person’s influence on other people. Influence is a subjective thing by nature, and I’ve read lots of brilliant posts by people who didn’t make this list. Some of these bloggers wield more influence in social media education endeavors outside of their blogs, such as conferences, Webinars, podcasts and white papers. Nonetheless, I thought this list might be helpful for all of us faced with limited reading time. I chose two metrics to weigh equally in this analysis: Unique Visitors per Month as calculated by independent providers like Nielsen NetRatings, and Total Inbound Links, as provided by Google. Some of these blogs are more focused on the topics of social media and online marketing than others; some also place emphasis on the technology industry at large. For me, nearly all of the blogs that made this list are worth keeping tabs on, as are many more. Here are the results.

You're right jamesmn. More and more people are creating their own social media blogs. And the competition intensifies as new competitions join the crowd. But if you think about it, those bloggers gets to read each other's social media blog hoping to learn from one another.. And that's definitely very social.
